NEW SITES ADDED Heartfelt Angels - HeartFelt Angels is a non-profit organization of volunteers that make handmade baby items for area hospitals to give to parents in need. Items such as gowns, hats, booties - preemie and newborn; angel ornaments, burial items, sweater sets, etc. are all made. The Bike Station - Rather than chucking it away, donate your unwanted or old bike and accessories so that it can be refurbished and re-used by someone else. House collection service available in certain parts of Scotland. Local Cooling - Automatically optimizes your PC's power consumption by using a more effective power save mode. You will be able to see your savings in real-time translated to more environmental terms such as how many trees and gallons of oil you have saved. The Extraordinaries - In just a few minutes you can micro-volunteer for your favourite cause using your mobile or personal computer, like cataloguing images, fighting climate change, cleaning up coastal waters etc. EVP Maker - EVPmaker is an experimental software for the generation of acoustic "raw material" for recordings of paranormal voices on tape, also known as "Electronic Voice Phenomena" (EVP). If you record any EVPs, submit them to EVP researchers (do a Google search). 30 Minute Mentor - The 30 Minute Mentor is a program for anyone needing or wanting to do community service by making a positive difference in others lives. This is an on-line community service program that enables a person to help others from their own computer on their own time. eFreeko - Recycle your unwanted items for free on a national rather than a local basis. Operates mainly in the UK and you can either post items or have people visit your house to collect. Flikr: The Commons - One of the key goals of The Commons is to provide you with an opportunity to describe the worlds public photo collections and thus help to make these collections even richer from a knowledge point of view.

FEATURED VOLUNTEER ACTION
Borderline Books collects overstocks and slightly damaged copies from publishers, bookshops and importers as well as second hand books from libraries. More importantly, from the point of view of Help From Home readers is that it also accepts books from individuals as well. There are several addresses to post your books to - some in Holland and some in the UK. They then redistribute these books free of charge to refugees newly settled in European towns and cities, women and children survivors of domestic violence, people in prison and those newly released from prison, victims of trafficking, undocumented women and others for whom the cost of a book simply cannot be fitted into the budget.
They are particularly interested in books in Arabic, Dari / Farsi, Russian, Portuguese, Turkish and Chinese as well as English and Dutch, although all languages are welcome. So far they have given away roughly 40,000 books to people and organizations who would not otherwise have been able to buy them, whilst in the UK, where they generally work on a much more local basis, they have donated around 5000 books to date.
All in all then, it's a great way to dispose of your books, knowing that they'll be put to good use for people who are not as advantaged as others are in life.
