Distributed Proofreaders

Distributed Proofreaders provides a web-based method to proofread a Public Domain book to help ease it’s conversion into an e-book. By dividing the workload into individual pages, many volunteers work on a book at the same time.
.
If you choose to participate in this action, you will be presented with a scanned page image from a public domain book, alongside its corresponding OCR (optical character recognition) text. This allows the text to be easily compared to the image, proofread, and sent back to the site. Proofread as many pages as you want, and when you want. Many books and categories to choose from.

  2. I love books and reading and think I would love to do this….if I can get past the steep learning curve. I am semi-computer literate and hope I could do this.

  3. I have done this. It is easy and the equipment is inexpensive. There is a need for commitment. It is fun though and a good cause.

This is a link to my recordings:

  4. The DP website won’t accept Hotmail addresses as email addresses. Has anyone else had this problem?
